PracticeDonald is a partner in Faskenup. His practice includes all areas of insolvency and restructuring law, as well as matters involving banking law generally, the law relating to payment (bills of exchange, electronic funds, credit cards, clearing and settlement systems, etc.) and the regulation of financial institutions. He has represented Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation since 1986 and acts as its external general counsel. As a result, in addition to a number of cases outside the financial services sector (from Nu-West Group to Eatons No. 2), Donald has been involved in the salvage, restructuring or liquidation of more than two dozen financial institutions and has advised CDIC and others on a variety of federal legislative initiatives. Professional InvolvementIn addition to The Insolvency Institute of Canada, Donald is a member of INSOL International, the Canadian Bar Association and (from time to time) the International Bar Association. He has lectured and participated in seminars on various topics related to insolvency or financial institutions for the IBA, the CBA-Ontario, the Canadian Bankers Association and other organizations, and is a former instructor in the debtor-creditor law component of the Bar Admission Course.
