PracticeLouis J. Gouin is a senior partner of Ogilvy Renault and a member of the Litigation Group in the Firm's Montreal office, with considerable experience in the area of financing, secured rights, insolvency, bankruptcy and restructuring. He advises financial institutions and, generally, all types of creditors on a day-to-day basis in connection with the planning and structuring of financing and protection of creditors' rights, as well as the realisation of security. He also advises debtor companies through their restructuring process. Professional InvolvementAs a member of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Advisory Committee, Mr. Gouin was actively involved in formulating amendments to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act which were ultimately adopted in 1997. .Mr. Gouin was previously a lecturer for the Quebec Bar Admission Course. He has served on several boards, namely, the Junior Bar Association of Montreal, the Canadian Bar Association (Bankruptcy - Quebec Section and National Section) and the Insolvency Institute of Canada. He has published several articles on the law of security and has been a guest speaker on matters of bankruptcy and insolvency at The Canadian Institute, the Meredith Memorial Lectures (McGill), the Canadian Bar Association , the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy and the Insolvency Institute of Canada, both in Canada and abroad. Since 1990 he has also been the Quebec editor for the law reporter Canadian Bankruptcy Reports.
